Green City awarded as "Munich ÖKOPROFIT operation"
After almost a year of intensive data collection and detailed environmental measures development, Munich-based Green City AG has received the ÖKOPROFIT certification. The award shows that sustainability and environmental protection start on a small scale, but can make a big difference.
Protecting the environment in the long term while also saving money: This is the goal of the Munich Units for Work and Economics and for Health and the Environment for almost 20 years with the environmental management programme ÖKOPROFIT. It is based on cooperation between municipalities and local companies and covers the most important areas of environmental protection in the company. Targeted on-site support from professional consultants focuses companies on making operations more sustainable and cost-effective. The figures from the previous year’s round show that certification is more than “just” a seal, but an effect: The 77 companies of the 2017/2018 vintage saved a total of around 1.5 million euros per year thanks to the implementation of the environmental programs – the consumption of resources decreased by 5.2 million kWh in electricity, heat and fuel – this corresponds to 4,700 tons of CO2!
“As a sustainable company, we had already taken a number of measures with us, but it was a real benefit to get outside suggestions through the program to make everyday work even more environmentally friendly,” sums up Emanuel Glück, the project manager responsible at Green City. “We will implement the proposals in a timely manner, because this programme shows abundantly clearly: everyone, really every single one, can make a difference in terms of sustainability.”
