¡Hola! Green City now with Spanish website

Climate change knows no boundaries. Nor does our international commitment to renewable energy. After Germany, Italy and France we are now also active in Spain – reason enough for a Spanish website!

What Green City saw as a promising opportunity 20 years ago is now an energy megatrend: No form of energy can currently produce electricity as cheaply as newly built wind and solar power plants. Falling technology costs and increased solar radiation have made solar energy the most cost-effective energy source in Europe, displacing electricity generation from nuclear and fossil fuels. This is especially true for solar power from sunny Spain.

Successful market entry in Spain

With grid parity in Spain, a milestone in the energy transition has been reached in southern Europe: Local photovoltaic system operators can offer solar power at competitive prices and thus without state support. With a clear market entry strategy, Green City has opened up the Spanish market in 2019 and has established several partnerships with local project developers. In 2020, the first PV project on Spanish soil was successfully realized with “El Marqués”. The solar park, which with an output of 12.3 MW is expected to produce around 20 million kWh of green electricity per year, was acquired at the end of 2020 by the fund RE Infrastructure Opportunities, which was accompanied by the internationally active investment and transaction consultant re:cap global investors ag. Details of the transaction can be found here.

The aim is to develop a portfolio of numerous megawatt solar parks in the next few years and to increase engagement in the attractive Spanish solar market.
