Praterkraftwerk: Green electricity from the heart of Munich

The Praterkraftwerk in the heart of Munich is a joint project of Green City and Stadtwerke München GmbH. Since the summer of 2010, the underground hydroelectric power plant with an output of 2.5 MW at the level of the Maximilian Bridge has been generating approximately 10 million kWh of green electricity invisibly, noiseless and emission-free – enough to supply up to 4,000 households per year.

The aim of the concept was from the outset to generate renewable electricity in accordance with the objectives of ecology, water protection and urban design. The modern hydroelectric power plant can prevent around 9,000 t of CO2 emissions compared to conventional fossil fuels. The power plant thus makes a valuable contribution to the climate-friendly energy supply of the state capital Munich.

Within the framework of The Power Plant Park I, residents and interested investors had the opportunity to subscribe for shares in the project.
